DF65 Club Racing 3rd May 2026

5 Skippers arrived at the lake prepared for some showers and a SW breeze between 8 and 20 Knots. What we received was a variable wind from SW to Westerly 3 to 10 knots, and bright sunshine.

Sailing was delayed by 30 minutes due to an incident with a throw in mark, where the class captain decided it would be a good idea to step back after throwing the mark, instead of standing still on the end of the rope, only to watch the end disappear into the murky depths of the lake. D’oh.

Thankfully Glenn had brought his throw-in, and between Glenn and John, managed to snag the first, enabling it to be recovered.

Racing got underway at 10:30 ish. Starting between 11 and a throw-in mark, 14p, Yp, 14p, Yp and finish 11 and throw-in. Although it appeared that the wind covered the whole lake, there was a big hole in the wind in the middle of the lake. Get caught in a whole and you suddenly drop to the back of the fleet.

A quick break was called after 4 races. With the wind having shifted for the second session, the course was changed to 11 & 12 start, 13p, Xp, 13p, Xp, finish 11 & 12. A further 4 races were completed before lunch and another 8 after lunch without incident, finishing around 14:30.

Good racing was had by all, with all boats taking their turn leading the fleet and finish last, so much so it was impossible to tell what order the boats finished overall.

Well done to Buzz who took first place, although there were times the rest of us made him work hard for this. Also well done to Glenn for taking Second from Phill on countback, on 39 points. Ian was only 1 point behind on 40, and John only 3 points behind on 43. It really was a close run competition.

Thank you everyone for the good racing, and in particular to Buzz for doing the majority of the Scoring, and Glenn and John to assistance in retrieving the throw-in mark.

Next DF65 racing Is the 24th May, see you all there.
