6 Skippers fought it out in round 5 in what turned out to be some changeable conditions. Conditions started overcast with a Southerly breeze circa 2-5 knots as the skippers lined up for the 1st course of the day. Start 4 & 5, Up, 5p, finish between 7 & 8.
A quick coffee break was called after 4 races. The rain shower that followed didn’t dampen any spirits as racing continued.
After race 8 the wind had shifted South Easterly. The course was altered to Start 6 & Bank marker, 9p, 6p, finish 7 & 8. This lasted 1 race before lunch was called as the wind speed had dropped.
After lunch the wind filled in at the northern end of the lake, so a 3rd course was set. Start 2 & 3, 6p, 2p, finish 6 & bank marker. This course as used for 7 races before the wind swung South-westerly, meaning a 4th course for the last 3 races of the day.
The final course Start 8 & 9, 12p, 9p, 12 & bank marker to finish. Discipline from all skippers was exemplary, with any infringements and penalties done without even being asked. Buzz even recalled his own yacht for being over the line early.
Well done to Buzz who takes the overall win for this round, although some races were close with the following yachts. Phill has taken second place and with his pointing he was hard to keep clear of if too close to windward. Glenn struggled to get his boat going today, but managed to pit John to 3rd place by 1 Point.
With only one race left in this Series the overall standings are tight. Buzz retains the series lead with 4 points, with Glenn in second on 7 points, and John and Phill tied for 3rd place on 12 points apiece.
It would be great if all the DF65 skippers could join us for the final race in the series on the 1st March 2026.
