A westerly breeze, 1 – 7 knots, and hot sunshine greeted the 5 skippers who attended the club racing today.
The start of racing was delayed a little but once underway the skipper made the most if it at the Northerly end of the lake with a course set:
5 & 6 Start, 1p, Tp, Finish 5 & 6. These seemed a little too short so was lengthened to 5 & 6 Start, 1p, 6p, 1p, Tp finish 5 & 6. before being shortened to the original course to finish a few more races before sailing was called off.
A break was called after 3 races, and Lunch after 7. Just before lunch Glenn’s boat started taking on a substantial amount of water, and required emptying between races. Unfortunately, electronics failure followed while trying to identity the source of the leak.
Buzz was also unlucky with his electronics, receiver gremlins were cutting the control signals on many occasions. This resulted in a brief visit to the dark side, although the gremlins were kind enough to restore the signal and the boat drifted free saving the long wall round.
The wind made tricky sailing for everyone, with gusts from different directions and plenty of hole allowing the lead boats to be overtaken, and left along way behind the others. This only appeared to get worse through the day, but the Skippers made the most of it, with nearly everyone securing wins and last positions.
Despite the tricky conditions and the confusing wind angles resulting the boats sailing on different tacks but in the same direction, the on water discipline was exemplary as always.
Congratulations to Buzz on securing 1st Place, and to Phil for securing 2nd place, one point ahead of Ian in 3rd.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and made the day an enjoyable experience.
